Pedro Sent to Indy

The beat gang is reporting that the Pirates have removed Pedro Alvarez from the DL and sent him to Indy. GM Neal Huntington said the move was made to get El Toro "back on track offensively and defensively."

And ya know what? We're fine with that. The Bucs this year have finally quit playing lip service to "accountability" and put teeth into the concept. Hey, even McCutch got sat down. If the FO thinks Pedro needs to get his game back up to speed, so be it. Josh Harrison and Brandon Wood have filled in adequately in his absence.

Not only does this send a message to Alvarez and the whole organization, but it does open up some possibilities. The Bucs have been open in their search for a stick, focusing according to media reports on first basemen. It'll be interesting to see if Pedro gets any reps at first while he's at Indy. Maybe they've found a third baseman that fills the 2011 bill (or beyond) and comes at a cost they're willing to pay.

Or maybe he just needs some work after a long layoff. We'll see how it plays out. But it's another indicator that this Pirate team isn't the same ol' Bucs. And that can't be bad.
